buddha machines have arrived !!

If you don't know what these are they are kind of
hard to describe... but when Brian Eno discovered
them he went right out and bought eight. It's not
a digital audio player (at least not in the traditional
sense) it's barely even much of a device at all. The
FM3 Buddha Machine is just an audio out jack, a
pitch bender, an on off switch, and an integrated
speaker. Turn it on and it repetitively plays back
one of nine ambient loops. That's it, but somehow
the machine has captured the imaginations of
many with its deceptive simplicity. Alan Bishop
from Sun City Girls apparently has 24 of them,
no joke. come on in and check 'em out...

Pick of the week time is here again !

Jeff's pick: Kids on a Crime Spree -
We Love you so Bad (2011)
slumberland is killing it as usual.
perfect summery pop bliss.

Laura's pick: Widowspeak s/t (2011)
First LP by these mellow brooklynites
is quietly knocking socks off round here.
Its haunting and dark and beautiful
and is here in plenty of time for the
rainy season.

Tim the Mute's Pick: Street Music of Yogyakarta
In 1978 Jack Body recorded an amazing amount of
street musicians in Java. All these recordings were
made in the street so you can hear babies crying,
car horns and food frying throughout. Raw folk
music by and for the people, this is the real deal.
A truly unique record filled with beautiful and
stirring sounds. Comes with a bonus 7"

this band along with josef k / tvp / desperate bicycles
laid down the framework of what is now known as
indie pop / indie rock. its all here.. just 10 years or
so before you heard it anywhere else.

brooklyn slate co.

Brooklyn Slate Company is a collaborative effort
from two food obsessed Brooklynites. All of their
slate products and packaging are made by hand
in small batches and the slate is sourced from a
family quarry in upstate New York. Slate provides
a natural surface for serving hors d'oeuvres and
cheeses as it is non-porous and food safe. It is
also better than wood because it won't mildew or
absorb oils or food flavours. Slate has the ability
to withstand a range of temperatures which also
makes it ideal for coasters. Each cheese board
comes packaged in a burlap bag with soapstone
chalk and anti-slip cork feet. A great gift idea !!

vintage porcelain jars

there are so many talented, creative
people in vancouver, like claire from
heyday design who makes these lovely
porcelain vintage jars which come in
a variety of sizes and canadian motifs.
All have clear glaze on the inside and
outer lip which is water-tight and food
safe so they are functional as a vase,
a vessel for cool liquids or for pretty
much anything you'd like to put in
them... simply beautiful !!
